Google Gemini Launches Video Analysis Tool That ChatGPT Doesn’t Have Yet

Google Gemini has launched a new feature that analyses videos, making it easier for users to get information without watching the entire footage. This tool is compatible with Android, iOS, and web platforms. Users can upload videos up to five minutes long and ask Gemini to describe the content or answer follow-up questions. This feature gives Gemini an edge over ChatGPT, which currently lacks video upload capabilities.

To use this feature, you need to update the app to its latest version unless you're accessing it via the web. The tool allows users to upload pre-recorded videos as recording within Gemini isn't available yet. This functionality could be beneficial for generating quick video descriptions on social media platforms.

How to Use Google Gemini's Video Feature

Begin by launching the Gemini app and tapping the '+' icon in the prompt box. Then select 'Gallery' and choose a video to upload before clicking 'Add.' Alternatively, on the website, you can drag a video directly into the prompt box.

Once your video is uploaded, you can start by asking Gemini questions like "What can you see in the video?" This will provide a comprehensive overview of the content. You can then delve deeper by asking specific questions about timestamps, locations, or other elements within the footage.

Additional Features and Tips

If your video exceeds five minutes, consider uploading it to YouTube and using its link in Gemini to bypass this restriction. Additionally, Gemini retains its ability to summarise YouTube videos—a feature that has been available for some time now.

The feature is accessible for both free and paid users and works in 2.5 Flash and 2.5 Pro versions of Gemini. Uploaded footage can also be played within Gemini if users decide they want to watch it after all.

As summer progresses and outdoor activities become more frequent, don't miss out on using Gemini Live for identifying plants like poison ivy. For mobile users interested in exploring more features of this AI tool, there are guides available on smart ways to use Gemini Live with your phone.

This innovative feature from Google aims to save time by providing detailed insights into video content without needing to watch every second of it. As technology continues evolving rapidly, tools like these offer practical solutions for everyday challenges.
