Assam Man Arrested After Sharing AI-Morphed Images Of Ex-Girlfriend
The Dibrugarh Police have apprehended Pratim Bora in a cyber defamation case. He is accused of distributing altered explicit images of a woman on social media using advanced AI tools. Bora, who was once in a relationship with the victim, allegedly used these tools to superimpose her face onto adult content, falsely suggesting she was involved in the adult film industry and lived in the United States.
The defamatory images caused widespread outrage in Assam. However, authorities confirmed that the images were fabricated to tarnish the woman's reputation after a personal disagreement. The victim, Ms Phukan, filed a complaint leading to an investigation by the cybercrime unit and Bora's subsequent arrest.

AI Tools and Digital Identities
During questioning, Bora confessed to using AI platforms like Midjourney AI, Desire AI, and OpenArt AI for creating the manipulated images. He also set up several fake Gmail accounts and social media profiles to distribute the material. The police are currently verifying all digital identities associated with him.
The case is registered at Dibrugarh Police Station under Dib PS Case No. 234/25. It involves Sections 336(4), 356(2), 74, 75, 294, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), addressing offences such as cyber harassment, defamation, obscenity, and privacy invasion.
Legal Proceedings and Warnings
Bora remains in police custody and will appear before court today. The police intend to request a seven-day remand for further interrogation and collection of digital evidence. Sizal Agarwal, SP-in-charge, confirmed these developments stating, "Yes, the accused used AI tools to create and circulate the images. We have sought data from multiple agencies to assist in the investigation."
