Anthropic Announces Plans To Open Bengaluru Office By 2026 To Boost AI Collaboration In India

Anthropic aims to enhance its presence in India by opening an office in Bengaluru by 2026. This initiative focuses on collaboration with local organisations and supporting AI development across sectors like education and healthcare.

India is set to become a significant hub for Anthropic, a company known for its artificial intelligence model, Claude. Guillaume Princen, head of EMEA at Anthropic, announced plans to open an office in Bengaluru by the first quarter of 2026. This move aims to strengthen their presence and collaboration with Indian organisations across sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture.

Anthropic's AI model, Claude, is gaining traction in India, ranking second globally in usage after the United States. In India, 50% of Claude's usage focuses on technical tasks such as user interface development and code debugging. This is notably higher than the global average of 30% for technical applications.

Focus on Local Engagement

The decision to establish a local office underscores Anthropic's commitment to engaging with India's vibrant startup ecosystem. Princen highlighted that startups contribute to 33% of Claude Code conversations in India. This positions Anthropic as a key partner for entrepreneurs looking to leverage AI technology.

Anthropic's Economic Index from September indicates that India's share of Claude usage is 7.2%, compared to 21.6% in the US. The company recently introduced Claude 4.5, which boasts high accuracy and new features like a Software Development Kit (SDK) and plugins for developers.

Expanding Developer Support

To support Indian developers further, Anthropic plans to maintain and expand API credits and adapt rate limits according to local needs. Collaborations with partners like Accel are also on the agenda to ensure Claude becomes accessible in regional languages.

"Anthropic's commitment is to develop responsible AI systems that drive social benefit and economic growth across the world. That is our mission," Princen stated during a developer event hosted with venture capital firm Accel.

Strategic Partnerships

The company's expansion plans align with recent announcements from competitors like OpenAI and Perplexity about their operations in India. Paul Smith, Anthropic's chief commercial officer, expressed interest in partnering with various businesses, including startups and global outsourcing firms.

Anthropic aims to help these businesses utilise their AI capabilities effectively. The company's focus remains on fostering partnerships that can leverage AI for global ambitions while ensuring responsible development practices.
