AI Poses Threat to Millions of Jobs: These Roles Are Most at Risk
As artificial intelligence continues its rapid integration into workplaces across the globe, concerns about job security are growing louder. From automated customer service bots to AI-generated content and self-driving delivery systems, the wave of automation is expected to disrupt several industries-and millions of workers may feel the impact sooner than expected.
Clerical Jobs Face Heavy Automation
Among the most vulnerable roles are clerical and administrative jobs. Data entry clerks, payroll assistants, and receptionists are increasingly being replaced by software that can process data and manage calendars far more efficiently than humans. AI tools can handle these tasks around the clock, with near-zero error rates.

Customer Support: Bots Taking Over the Frontline
Customer service, once considered safe due to its human touch, is now being reshaped by AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants. These tools can handle thousands of customer queries simultaneously, offering instant responses in multiple languages. Call center jobs, in particular, are under threat, especially those involving standard or repetitive queries.
Writers and Designers Aren't Immune
Generative AI platforms like ChatGPT and image tools such as DALL·E are also making inroads into creative industries. Content creators-especially those producing routine or templated writing such as product descriptions, basic news stories, or logo designs-are seeing their work replicated within seconds by machines. While human creativity still has the edge, many entry-level jobs in writing and design are at risk.
Finance, IT, and Legal Roles Hit by Automation
AI is also streamlining sectors like finance, tech support, and law. Bookkeeping, tax preparation, and invoice processing are now being handled by AI systems that reduce errors and boost efficiency. Similarly, in IT, basic coding and quality assurance roles are being taken over by AI that can generate and test software on its own. Even legal research-a time-consuming task once done by junior associates-is being accelerated by AI tools that comb through databases in moments.
Retail, Delivery, and Transportation in the Crosshairs
Cashiers and telemarketers are also at risk as retail automation grows. Self-checkout systems, e-commerce algorithms, and AI-driven sales platforms are replacing human workers. In logistics, advances in autonomous driving and drone technology signal a future where delivery trucks and couriers may no longer require drivers.
Speaking to Steven Bartlett on his podcast The Diary of a CEO, Amjad Masad, an AI expert, had told last month that all jobs are under threat. Any routine job will disappear in the next couple of years.
The Safer Zones-for Now
While automation looms over many sectors, experts point out that jobs requiring emotional intelligence, complex problem-solving, hands-on tasks, and human trust-such as teachers, electricians, therapists, and senior managers-are less likely to be replaced in the near term.
With technical development each day, it all boils down to people's decision to upskills to stay ahead of the race.
