TVK's Vijay Pays Emotional Tribute To RB Choudary, Producer Who Changed His Career With Poove Unakkaga

Veteran Tamil film producer RB Choudary, founder of Super Good Films and one of the most influential names in South Indian cinema, died in a tragic road accident in Udaipur on Tuesday. His sudden demise sent shockwaves across the Tamil film industry, with several actors, filmmakers and political personalities mourning the loss.

Among those who arrived to pay their last respects was Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay, whose career took a major turn because of Choudary's support during the early years of his film journey. The producer's funeral is being held in Chennai on May 6.

Vijay Bids Farewell To Mentor Figure

Videos and photographs shared by Vijay's fan clubs on social media showed the actor-politician arriving at the funeral venue to offer condolences. Vijay placed a large garland on RB Choudary's mortal remains, which were kept inside a glass casket.

The actor appeared visibly emotional during the visit. He later embraced Choudary's younger son, actor Jiiva, who broke down in tears while receiving condolences.

The moment quickly spread across social media platforms, with fans recalling the long-standing association between Vijay and the veteran producer.

How RB Choudary Revived Vijay's Career

RB Choudary played a defining role in shaping Vijay's rise in Tamil cinema. During the mid-1990s, Vijay struggled to establish himself as a bankable star and faced a series of unsuccessful films.

That changed in 1996 with Poove Unakkaga, a romantic comedy directed by Vikraman and produced by RB Choudary under the Super Good Films banner. The film emerged as a massive commercial success and became Vijay's first major breakthrough in the industry.

The movie reportedly ran for more than 270 days in theatres across Tamil Nadu and was later remade in multiple languages. It is still regarded as one of the landmark films in Vijay's career.

A Producer Behind Several Blockbusters

RB Choudary was widely respected for backing commercially successful and emotionally resonant films across Tamil and Telugu cinema. Through Super Good Films, he helped launch and strengthen the careers of several actors and directors over the decades.

Some of the most notable films produced by him include Cheran Pandian, Nattamai, Poove Unakkaga, Suryavamsam, Thullatha Manamum Thullum, Aanandham, Jilla and Godfather. His final production venture was the upcoming Maareesan, starring Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil.

Several stars from the South Indian film industry visited the funeral venue to pay tribute, including Chiyaan Vikram, Suriya and Mammootty.
