Kolkata, Sept 2: The CPI(M) in West Bengal finds something western whenever there arises any issue. On Sunday, the party took out a rally in the city against its eternal enemies, imperialism and war, and Left Front chairman Biman Bose claimed on the occasion that the successive electoral debacle of the Left in West Bengal was caused by American conspiracy, said a report.

The Left Front has fared disastrously in all forms of elections in the state since the 2008 panchayat elections. They also lost their 34-year-old bastion in the state in 2011 to arch-rival Mamata Banerjee. They have failed to utilise Banerjee's largely unpopular show as the chief minister.

The rally saw the participation of the state opposition leader, Surjya Kanta Mishra, former state finance minister Asim Dasgupta and other leaders. Former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was, however, absent.

The US recently expressed its concern over the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime that killed several people, including children, and almost announced a war against the Bashar al-Assad regime till President Barack Obama took a last-minute U-turn to seek a Congressional authorisation for the move.
