Bangalore NGO to hold Run for Bharat on Independence Day
Bangalore, Aug 14: Boosted by last year's success, Samagra Vikasa, a local NGO, is organising its 2013 edition of 'Run for Bharat' in the city on Thursday, on the occasion of India's 67th Independence Day.
The five-kilometre charity run has been organised to raise funds for relief for Uttarkhand where a devastating natural calamity struck a few months ago and also other nationalistic activities. Those participating can buy a Run for Bharat souvenir T-shirt for Rs 200.

Channamallikarjun B Patil, one of the oragnisers, said the idea behind organising such events is to instill a sense of nationalism among the youth. "Independence Day is generally seen as another holiday and we aim to make it an occasion to celebrate our nationalistic feelings," he said.
The maiden edition saw participation of around 6,000 people and the organisers are expecting the number to go up to 10,000 this time. Next year, Samagra Vikasa looks to broaden the base and hold a number of events in different locations across Karnataka.
The registration for the run/walk event for Thursday's event will take place between 7.30 and and 8.30 am and the run will begin at 9 am. It will be followed by a cultural programme at 10 am. The venue is Chandragupta Mourya Ground (Shalini Ground), 11th Main, 5th Block, Jayanagar, Bangalore.
One can visit www.samagravikasa.org to register for the event and see photographs of the previous edition.
