4 drown in boat tragedy in Malda, 40 missing

Malda (WB), June 14: Four persons were killed and around 40 people went missing after a boat carrying over 60 people capsized in the Ganga in Malda district of West Bengal on Friday. It was a country boat, carrying mostly daily labourers.

The incident happened as the boat left the Dharampur bank towards the char island at 7.30am. Four bodies were fished out from the river. This also included a woman. Local rescuers have managed to rescued eight persons, but 40 others are still missing. Search and rescue operations are underway, which is being supervised by the senior district and the police officials.
