C'garh Naxal Attack: Injured Cong leader VC Shukla no more

Gurgaon, June 11: Veteran Congress leader Vidya Charan Shukla, who had received severe injuries during Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh, passed away on Tuesday, June 11.

Shukla was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. He had suffered 3 bullet injuries. Doctors earlier had informed that Shukla was unable to breathe easily and was kept on ventilator.

The 84-year-old former union minister was airlifted to Gurgaon soon after the deadly Naxal attack on May 25. Shukla developed multi-organ failure, severe bullet injuries and old age were major risk factors in his case, said doctor of the Gurgaon hospital.

Shukla, the for former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, was known to be close to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. Shukla was also the Information and Broadcasting Minister during Emergency in 1975.

At least 250 Maoists had attacked the Congress convoy when the leaders were returning from party's Parivartan rally in Sukma on Saturday, May 25. Many Congress leaders including Mahendra Karma were killed when the heavily-armed Maoists ambushed the convoy.
