PM Singh congratulates Siddaramaiah

New Delhi, May 11: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday congratulated Karnataka's new Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah who was appointed to lead the Congress government in the state after a long discussion on Friday.

According to official sources, the prime minister spoke to Siddaramaiah over the telephone and wished him well for the future.

Siddaramaiah was named the chief minister by the Congress Friday after the party ousted the Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently held elections. The incumbent party was routed in the polls as its tally was reduced to 40 from 110.

The Congress, on the other hand, although did not gain much in terms of vote share, but bagged 121 seats in the 224-member strong assembly. One seat is yet to go to the polls.

The happy mood in the Congress over the Karnataka victory was, however, ruined by the massive uproar over the Railgate and Coalgate scams at the Centre which saw the ouster of two UPA ministers, Pawan Kumar Bansal and Ashwani Kumar, on Friday.
