Terrorists gun down police officer in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, May 10: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Jammu and Kashmir was shot dead by terrorists on Friday. The incident occurred in Pulwama district of southern Kashmir, 32 kilometres from Srinagar, where the assailants opened fire. A police enforcement was sent to the spot and a search operation was underway.

The injured ASI, Farooq Ahmad, was taken to nearby Phulwama district hospital where the doctors declared him to be brought dead.

Ahmad, who was posted in Phulwama Police Station, was on law and order duty at the time of the attack and was not carrying his service weapon with him. The police have cordoned off the area.

This is the second terrorist attack on policemen in the Valley within two weeks. On April 27, four policemen were shot dead by terrorists in Haigam area of Sopore in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, about 38 km northwest of Srinagar.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack.
