Veteran Bollywood actor Pran to get Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Mumbai, April 12: Veteran Bollywood actor Pran will receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in the field of Indian cinema given annually by the Government of India.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award is given to prominent personality from the film industry. The personalities are respected for their significant contributions to Indian cinema.

A committee consisting eminent personalities from the Indian film industry is appointed to evaluate the award. Dadasaheb Phalke is considered as the father of Indian cinema.

The 93-year-old actor Pran, who played the role of villain in several Hindi movies in the era of 50s and 60s, won hearts of many with his acting skill. The actor also was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian cinema.

The veteran actor lately was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Rumours had surfaced that actor Pran was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai in a critical condition. Such reports created "unnecessary" panic among his followers and fans.
