Presidency vandalism: 2 arrested, 3 detained
Kolkata, April 12: Two days after alleged Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers broke into the prestigious Presidency University and beat up students and teachers and ransacked a historic lab of the institute, two people were arrested while three were detained. The arrested were identified as Shubhojeet Burman and Jayanta Haldar and it was learnt that neither of them were students of the university.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan was caught in a political war of words with the Left Front after he asked the CPI(M) to apologise for the attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other Cabinet ministers in Delhi on Tuesday after they went to the national capital to meet Planning Commission authorities.

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee protesting the Governor's role while the state CPI(M) termed him to be ignorant.
Earlier on Thursday, hundreds comprising both current and former students of the Presidency University took to the streets condemning the violence at the university. Vice-chancellor Malabika Sarkar also joined the protests.
