All women judges bench at Supreme Court

Justice Gyan Sudha Misra and Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai
New Delhi, April 12: Due to non-availability of a judge, the Supreme Court created a history today by having an all women bench at the Court No 4.

Justice Gyan Sudha Misra headed the women bench with her colleague Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. The Supreme Court has only two women judges.

Justice Aftab Alam, who normally hears cases in Court No 4, is not available today.

Meanwhile, with two more judges sworn in today, the strength of the Supreme Court has risen to 30. This is just short of sanctioned strength of 31 judges including the CJI.

Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri and Justice Sharad Bobde were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir.

While Justice Sikri was the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Bobde was the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.
