How we treat our jawans on Major Unnikrishanan's birthday
The body of Satish was brought to Mandya from Bangalore airport in the wee hours. Before being taken to his village, the administration wanted to keep his body in the hospital cold storage. But the night staff at the private hospital refused to keep it in cold storage or in air conditioned room even for three hours, from 3 am to 6 am. This is how public show insensitivity towards the jawans.
Satish was killed in on Wednesday's suicide attack in Srinagar and his body was brought to his village Halambadi for funeral on Friday.
Earlier in the day, in another embarrassing episode, the portrait of Satish's brother was displayed as the body was taken in a funeral procession in Mandya. According to Satish's uncle, Anand and some other relatives, the portrait was that of the slain soldier's brother, who is also serving in the CRPF in Madhya Pradesh. But, the Deputy Commissioner B N Krishnaiah said that the portrait was provided by Satish's family and there was no lapse on the part of the district administration. The portrait was later changed.
Meanwhile, Karnatka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who mourned Sathish, on Thursday announced a relief of Rs. 5 lakh to his family. Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar, principal donor of the Flags of Honour Foundation, announced Rs. 2 lakh as compensation to jawan's mother Savithramma.
