How Raja Bhaiya becomes boon for Mayawati, bane for Akhilesh
Following a latest murder charge against him, Raja Bhaiya on Monday, March 4 resigned from his post as state's Food and Civil Supplies Minister. However, this was not the first time when the controversial UP minister hogged limelight. Total 45 cases have been filed against him.
Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government has been facing tremendous criticism following the continuous controversies over Raja Bhaiya. Citing the uproar in the state, the former CM and BSP supremo Mayawati seems to have all set to take full privilege of the situation.
Demanding President Rule in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati said, "Even after a year in office, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has not been able to get its act together. If police are not secure, what can common people expect?"
Controversy over Raja Bhaiya was ignited after Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zia-ul-Haq's widow filed a legal complaint against him. The MLA has been booked under section 120(b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Haq's wife Parveen Azad accused four associates of the minister - Gulshan Yadav (chairman, Kunda nagar panchayat), Hari Om Shankar Srivastava (Raja Bhaiya's representative), and Guddu Singh and Rohit Singh (drivers of the minister) - of being involved in her husband's murder.
