NPF crosses half-way mark in Nagaland

Agartala/Shillong/Kohima, Feb 28: Results for the assembly elections in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya were announced on Thursday. While the Left Front retained Tripura and was set to form its fifth consecutive government in the state, the Naga People's Front (NPF) and the Congress-UDP alliance were likely to retain Nagaland and Meghalaya, respectively.

The NPF has won 32 of the 60 seats in Nagaland and is currently leading in 6 seats. The Congress bagged 5 and is leading in 3 seats. The NCP has won 4 seats.

The Congress has already won 27 seats in Meghalaya and the party's candidates are leading in another 3 constituencies at the moment. The United Democratic Party has won 8 seats while candidates put up by the Hill State People's Democratic Party emerged victorious in 4 constituencies. The NCP and National People's Party managed to win 2 seats each.

Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio wins from northern Angami II seat by 12, 671 votes. Tripura CM Manik Sarkar has won from Dhanpur by 5,000 votes. The biggest winning margin in Tripura was registered by the state finance minister Badal Chowdhury (12,450 votes).

Left Front takes its tally to 40 in Tripura. The CPI(M) has won 39 seats while the CPI has won one seat. The Congress has won seven seats.

He will have to wait for five more years to try again for a Left-free nation.
