AKKA's new team: New faces in US Kannada organisation

Bangalore, Feb 14: The Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) has got new office-bearers after an election conducted by an independed organisation in US.

AKKA is a not for profit cultural organization promoting Kannada culture and bonding among Kannadigas in America.

The team installed last month is headed by Dr. Halekote Vishwamitra, who originally belongs to Mudigere taluka near Chikmagalur. Other members are: Sanjay Rao (Secretary), Venu Vaishya (Treasurer), Nagabhusan Aradhya, Raj Patil and Shankar Setty (all Vice Presidents),
Ravi Boregowda and Haridas Larahi (both Joint Secretaries), Vijay Lakshman and Dr. Naveen Krishna (both Joint Treasurers).

The election was conducted by an independent organisation Election Trust under supervision of John Bowden.

AKKA was established in 1998 by the Kannada speaking people living in the United States of America and Canada at a convention held in Phoenix. Its aim is to integrate, coordinate, network and unite the activities of all Kannadigas and Kannada Kootas in North America for the promotion and preservation of Kannada language and culture. Among its charity work, AKKA has donated considerable sum to build a section of Sankara Eye Hospital in Bangalore.
