Cauvery: SC corners K'taka, asks to release more water to TN

Earlier Tamil Nadu government had moved the Supreme Court seeking damages from Karnataka for the loss of crops caused by the neighbouring state's "adamant approach" on release of water.
The court earlier had refrained from passing any fresh orders after Tamil Nadu and Karnataka failed to reach a consensus on sharing water.
The court was hearing cross petitions by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka rooted in the Sep 19, 2012 interim order of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) directing Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu every day till Oct 15, 2012.
Earlier on Jan 30, Karnataka had told the Supreme Court that it cannot release any more water for Tamil Nadu as it would affect the water needs of its own people.
