Hyderabad, Jan 30: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi will be grilled by the Andhra Pradesh police on Feb 1 and 2. Today, a court in Nizamabad district remanded Akbaruddin in police custody for two days in a case pertaining to one of his hate speeches.

The Chandrayangutta MLA was arrested on Jan 8 in this connection. The Nirmal Town Police in Adilabad district had charged him with sedition, promoting enmity between different communities and waging war against the nation.

On Jan 9, a court in the town sent Akbaruddin to judicial custody for two weeks. Later, the court extended his custody to Feb 5.

The MIM legislator landed in trouble after a video of his provocative speech went viral on YouTube last month. It showed him saying "If the police are removed for just 15 minutes, 25 crore Muslims in the country will show they are mightier than 100 crore Hindus" at a meeting in Nirmal town on Dec 24, 2012.

After watching Akbaruddin spew venom, a petitioner moved the court against him. However, K Karunasagar was forced to appeal for security as he received three death threats on Dec 28.

Cases have already been lodged against him in several police stations across Andhra Pradesh. Incidentally, Akbaruddin has also been booked for another provocative speech that he made on Jan 23, 2012.

Bail rejected in another case

A court in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh has rejected the bail plea of Akbaruddin Owaisi in a 2005 case where he is accused of preventing government officials from performing their duty.

The magistrate's court at Sangareddy rejected Akbaruddin's bail application.

He is currently lodged in Adilabad district jail in connection with a case related to his recent hate speech. Akbaruddin, his brother and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and other accused had had a heated argument with Medak collector A K Singhal and other officers during this 2005 incident, as they protested demolition of a mosque near Patancheru for highway widening. The collector was allegedly pushed.
