Prime Minister Singh showers praises on Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi, Jul 4: Prime Minister

showered praises on former finance minister and

's front-runner for the Presidential elections

for his contribution towards the party.

"The Prime Minister when he began the Cabinet meeting expressed his appreciation for the enormous contribution made by Pranab Mukherjee," said Home Minister P Chidambaram.

"A brief resolution was adopted appreciating the services he has rendered to the government of India over the last so many years and it was adopted by acclamation," said Chidambaram.

Pranab Mukherjee resigned from his post on Jun 26.

Meanwhile, Pranab Mukherjee visited Lucknow on Tuesday. His luncheon at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's residence garnered criticism after two jailed MLAs were also present during the event.

He is on a visit to Kerala today following which he will visit Rajasthan and Gujarat the next day. He is also scheduled to visit Tripura and Assam on Jul 6.
