Virbhadra Singh hands resignation to PM

Virbhadra Singh
New Delhi, Jun 26: Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Virbhadra Singh today resigned on moral grounds.

After a court in Shimla framed corruption charges against 78-year-old Singh and his wife in the CD case yesterday, the opposition demanded that he be immediately removed from the Union Cabinet but the ruling party maintained that there was nothing wrong in him continuing as a minister till the court gives its verdict.

Singh, a five time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, even told Congress president Sonia Gandhi that the evidence against him was "concocted."

However, it seems that the pressure on him to quit was too great. Today he drove to 7 Race Course Road and handed his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
