B'lore: French diplomat accused of abusing 4-yr old daughter
The shocking story has just exposed how the child is not safe in his/her own home. The victim is three and a half years old and is the child of Pascal Mazurier. The matter was first discovered by the child's mother and following a medical examination it was found that the 4-year-old was indeed sexually abused.
Based on the complaint by the Indian mother and wife of the diplomat, the Bangalore police detained Mazurier, but was not arrested since he enjoys diplomatic immunity. Ravikanthe Gowda, DCP, Bangalore Central has been quoted as saying, "A case of child molestation and abuse is registered. However, no details can be given as it involves child rights... investigation is on..."
The diplomat is the third in command at the Consulate General of France and could seriously dent the image of the consulate as a whole. Nina Nayak, Chairperson, Child Rights Commission, stated, "The mother of the French diplomat - the mother of the child had doubts that her husband was physically abusing their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter."
Pramila Nesargi, speaking on behalf of the victim said, "We've requested the French Embassy to waive off the diplomatic immunity. They have a right to waive it. A rapist should not be allowed to go free."
The consulate refused to comment on the issue and said that they were in no way connected to the issue. It now remains to be seen if the issue will take a similar turn as that of the Italian marines accused of killing the Kerala fishermen leading to a diplomatic stand off between the two countries.
