Gujarat riots: 23 sentenced today in Ode massacre case

Gujarat
Ahmedabad, Apr 12: Over eighteen people have been sentenced to life imprisonment and five other convicts given seven years in jail for the Ode massacre case during 2002 Gujarat riots.

In 2002, during the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat, at least 23 people taking shelter in a house were killed when a mob set the house at Ode village in Anand district on fire. Among the 23 burnt alive, nine of them were children and eight were women. The police could recover only two skeletons from the house.

After the Gujarat police failed to investigate the case, it was handed over to Special Investigating Team (SIT) that filed chargesheet against 47 people.

The Ode case is one amongst the nine post-Godhra riot cases investigated by the Supreme court appointed SIT.
