TRS for 'Telangana': KCR's exchange offer to Congress?

New Delhi, April 5: In a bid to fulfill the age old demands of Telangana people, the TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao has reportedly offered to merge his party with Congress in exchange for creation of the Telangana state.

Sources said that Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief KCR has been camping in the national capital since last few days in demand of a separate state for Telangana. It is also learnt that he has met some top leaders of the Congress party close to party president Sonia Gandhi and offered to merge his party in exchange for Telangana.

KCR has also told to Congress top brass that it would be better if a decision on Telangana was announced before August, when the by-elections to 18 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats were likely to be held.

Moreover, while making the exchange offer, KCR is also reported to have posed a veiled threat that he would be constrained to intensify the agitation which might even take ugly turns, if Telangana was not conceded at the earliest.

Earlier, the Union government had made it clear that govt would announce a clear statement on Telangana in the budget session of Parliament, which will resume on Apr 24, after a customary break of three weeks.

The Union Health Minister and senior leader of Congress Gulam Nabi Azad had earlier this week assured the MPs from Telangana that the party leadership would intensify its efforts to arrive at a decision on Telangana demand during the break. The UPA government will announce the decision in the House on Apr 24, he said.

The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Apr 4 has also threatened to intensify the separate statehood agitation once again if the ruling Congress fails to make its stand clear on the issue before the Parliament resumes for the second part of the Budget session on Apr 24.

Centre has been struggling to solve the age old demands of Telangana people. But nothing has been done till date to fulfill their demands. Moreover, at least 600 people committed suicide in last few days for the Telangana issue.
