After VIP treatment in jail, Jagir's plea for TV rejected

Chandigarh, Apr 5: Former Punjab Minister Bibi Jagir Kaur had requested for a television in her jail cell for entertainment, but Punjab Director of Police (Prisons) Shashi Kant has rejected her request.

According to the media reports, Bibi enjoyed the VIP treatment in the jail. Kant has asked an Inspector General rank police officer to conduct an investigation over the issue. He is likely to visit the Kapurthala Jail on Thursday, Apr 5 to look over the issue.

Kant had also written a letter to SP Khanna, Superintendent of Kapurthala Jail, asking him to follow the norms.

Kaur was first sent to Patiala jail but on request she was later shifted to Kapurthala jail as her native village Begowal was nearby. "This request was granted as it fell within the rules," he said.

Kaur was convicted for abduction and forceful abortion of her daughter Harpreet. Meanwhile, she has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment.
