New Delhi, Mar 29: Reacting to the leaked letter to the Prime Minister Office (PMO), Army Chief Gen VK Singh on Thursday, Mar 29 rejected all allegations that held him responsible for the leakage, and said it is a cynical approach to tarnish his image should stop and leakage of the letter should be treated as treason.

In a bid to end the controversy over the leakage of Army Chief Gen VK Singh's confidential letter to PMO explaining major shortcomings in the country's defence preparedness, the government has ordered Intelligence Bureau to probe the matter.

Sources from Defence Ministry have confirmed that Intelligence Bureau has been asked to inquire into leakage of the Army Chief's confidential letter to Prime Minister's office.

According to media reports, the confidential letter to PMO by Army Chief had explained several shortcomings in the country’s defence related procurements, obsolete air defence, bureaucratic hassles and shortage of ammunition and critical weaponry required to safeguard the country in the event of a war.

The leakage of the confidential letter to PMO and bribery allegation made by Army Chief Gen VK Singh has become a major embarrassment for the Congress-led UPA government, which is why govt has ordered CBI probe into the bribery allegations by General VK Singh claiming that he was offered a bribe for clearing sub-standard vehicles for the Army.
