Patna, Mar 29: In Bihar legislative assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday, Mar 28 said that special status is needed in the state for the development. "Otherwise, the state would not be able to match developed states even in 25 years," he added.

Bihar per capita income for 2011-2012 was Rs 13,362, which was one-third of national average of Rs 35,993 and one-fifth of Rs 62,729 in Maharashtra, Modi said. While, the per capita power consumption was 85.86 Kw in the state. The state should receive Rs 33,126 crore from Centre during 2012-2013. Since 1951, Centre has ignored Bihar and it received a step-motherly treatment, he added.

Abdul Bari Siddiqui, the leader of the opposition also supported the demand for a special status.

Meanwhile, the legislative assembly passed the Bihar Appropriation Bill of Rs 79,055.59 crore for budget expenditure in this fiscal year.
