Lawyer-Police clash in Bangalore; Woman cop injured in melee

The recent incident also occurred at the magistrate court complex on Nrupathunga Road in Bangalore. The lawyer-police relation had gone for a toss in recent times after the Mar 2 violence saw an ugly brawl, where many policemen and others were injured when the lawyers went on a rampage in Bangalore streets.
According to police sources, 53 year old Basavaraj who is attached to Halasuru Gate police station and 25 year old Roopa from the women's police station was brutally attacked, kicked, punched and pushed to the ground without any provocation by the advocates.
Media reports on the matter say that Basavaraj who was rushing in the court premises suffered injuries after he fell down. Members of the Advocates’ Association Bangalore stated that senior advocates had actually offered help to the injured cop. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) T Suneel Kumar has been quoted as saying that the police authorities would speak to officials, including the Registrar of the High Court, to make sure that such incidents do not repeat.
A case on Tuesday's incident has been registered against eight to ten persons, four of them being advocates, under various sections of IPC.
