Kudankulam Nuclear Plant
Chennai, Mar 23: Rs 13,000 crore has been spent to set up the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant project and now Tamil Nadu government is facing Rs 10 lakh loss everyday as the agitators are still continuing their protest against the nuclear plant.

The renewed protest led by Uday Kumar, who Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy called a "secret of agent of LTTE", entered the fifth day on Friday, Mar 23. The work in the plant resumed recently after getting the nod from Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

"For the last three days, there is no water or electricity. Milk either. Mothers are feeding babies just boiled water," said SP Udayakumar of the People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE).

While the police have blocked essential commodities to the Idinthakarai village, protestors are now arriving to the venue of protest through sea route, said a report by the Daily Mail.

Shops have also closed down in the area and essential commodities are being ferried through boats, as the police is keeping a hawk's eye on the movements of groceries and provisions.

According to R Selvaraj, district collector, he was not aware of the restrictions imposed on essential commodities. He said that the power crisis was due to load shedding and would be restored back soon.

"It is the villagers who are keeping themselves holed up. We are not preventing their movement. They have put up barricades on the road," said inspector general of police Rajesh Das.

"We are neither Maoists nor terrorists. Ours is a peaceful protest. The police and the government are pushing us to starvation," said a protestor.
