Holi celebrations turn fatal in Mumbai;149 kids hospitalized

Mumbai, Mar 8: When the nation celebrated Holi on Mar 8, that saw a riot of colours across the country, as many as 149 kids were hospitalized following Holi celebrations. The children are reported to be between the age group of 5-15 and are mostly from the Shastrinagar area of Dharavi. They have been admitted to the Lokmanya Tilak municipal general hospital at Sion for treatment.

The children were hospitalized after complaining of nausea and breathlessness. Most of the children are stable, with some of them admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). There are reports that the incident was caused after the children played with chemically tainted colours.

A hospital source has been quoted as saying, "Altogether 144 cases of colour poisoning came to the hospital and over 50 people who have been affected the most, have been admitted."
