Assam CM Gogoi to be India's next Vice-President?

New Delhi, Mar 5: The Congress Party is reportedly backing Assam's Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi three-time for the position of the Vice-President.

"They (Congress) haven’t come with any name or proposal so far. Perhaps they would do it after the results of the Uttar Pradesh elections," sources said when asked about the nominees for Presidency.

During the regime of Former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, Gogoi had served as the Minister of State for Food and later headed the Food processing industry.

Mr. Gogoi has also served at various levels in both the state and in the Centre.

The current Vice-President, Hamid Ansari's term would be ending on Aug 10.
