Emaar case:Andhra IAS officer follows Jagan's aide, arrested

Hyderabad, Jan 30: An IAS officer - BP Acharya has been arrested over his alleged role in the Emaar case in Andhra Pradesh. The investigative agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Mr Acharya on Monday, Jan 30.

Earlier the CBI had arrested Sunil Reddy - a close aide of Jagan Mohan Reddy, an MP from Kadapa. Here it can be mentioned that Emaar scam came in the limelight during late YSR's tenure in the state. The scam shows irregularities in transferring land and sale of villas and apartments in a township jointly developed in Hyderabad by state-run Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) and Dubai-based infrastructure firm Emaar.

The CBI filed the FIR in Aug 2011 and three persons have been arrested over the case. Mr Acharya, who is also the principal secretary (Home) in the state, is the third person who has been arrested.

After his arrest, Mr Acharya on Monday has been sent to CBI custody till Feb 1.
