Facebook
New Delhi, Jan 11: With internet firms facing censorship issues in India, the Delhi Police was issued a notice by the Delhi High Court based on a petition filed against summons issued by a trial court to 21 websites, including Facebook, Google, Yahoo and YouTube, for allegedly hosting obscene and derogatory content.

Both Facebook and Google were issued a summons by a trial court and they had approached the High Court opposing the same.

Vinay Rai, who had earlier filed a petition in the trial court against websites that hosts obscene and derogatory content was also served notice by Justice Suresh Kait along with the Delhi Police. The matter will be taken up in court on Thursday for hearing.

The trial court magistrate looked into the material submitted by the complainant that contained obscene pictures and derogatory articles concerning various Hindu gods, Prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ.

The trial court had in turn directed the central government to take immediate steps regarding the objectionable content on the sites and file its report by Jan 13th.
