Chennai: AIADMK activists attack Tamil magazine office

Chennai, Jan 7: Workers of the ruling AIADMK on Saturday, Jan 7 attacked the Tamil weekly magazine Nakkeeran office in protest against an article published by it degrading the image of AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

According to the media reports, over fifty activists from AIADMK entered to the office premises with wooden logs and bottles and damaged some cars and two-wheelers parked in the campus. Moreover, they shouted slogans stagging the magazine for publishing anti-Jayalalithaa article.

AIADMK party workers also burnt copies of latest edition of the magazine. They has also smashed window panes and furnitures. Meanwhile, police said that situation has been brought under control and tight protection has been given to the magazine office.

Reacting to the matter, a senior AIADMK leader said an article in the magazine against their supremo had provoked the party workers. DMK Chief Karunanidhe condemned the incident and made it clear that such attacks were not acceptable in a democracy.
