Andhra Pradesh: Hooch tragedy consumes 17 lives

Hyderabad, Jan 2: Hooch tragedy which struck Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district claimed over 17 lives.

On Saturday evening, the death toll rose to 16, while one person died in Nalgonda district.

The deceased who consumed spurious liquor belonged to three tribal communities. They were hospitalised after they complained of giddiness. Ten victims are still struggling for life in hospitals at Mylavarm and Vijayawada.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader D Umamaheswara Rao staged a dharna at the excise office at Mylavaram along with the relatives of the victims demanding action against the guilty and compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the victims' Kins. Police arrested Rao.
