WB: Spurious liquor, 143 dead; challenge for Didi

West Bengal Map
Kolkata, Dec 15: Death toll in West Bengal mounted to 143 on Thursday (Dec 15) morning as many people consumed spurious liquor at Mograhat in South 24 Parganas district.

Doctors suspect that the death toll may rise soon as many more people are critically ill after consuming the deadly alcohol.

All leaves of doctors and officials of various health organisations at the region have been cancelled following the news. The dead people are mainly autorickshaw drivers, hawkers, truck drivers.

Four people were arrested for supplying spurious liquor. The victims have been admitted to the Diamond Harbour Hospital, health centers and nursing homes.

It seems to be a challenging time for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as this deadly incident occurred just after the gruesome fire tragedy at AMRI hospital where at least 90 patients lost their lives following the callousness of the hospital authorities.
