Tamil Nadu: DMK MP Alagiri summoned by court in assault case

Madurai, Dec 10: A Tamil Nadu Court has ordered the police to issue summon to Union Minister MK Alagiri to appear in the court on January 19. He has been accused in an assault case during the DMK campaigning in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in April.

Alagiri was ordered to be summoned by Melur Judicial Magistrate for allegedly assaulting M. Kalimuthu, tahsildar.

While Alagiri was campaigning at a village temple near Melur, the Tehsildar and Election officer Kalimuthu ordered it to be videographed which resulted in a scuffle injuring the official.

Police had registered a case against Alagiri and 26 others in which he was ordered to appear for hearing on Friday. All accused except Alagiri appeared at the court which made the court direct him to appear on a later date - Jan 19.
