Court orders FIR against Mercedes-Benz's directors

Jaipur, Dec 9: A local court directed the state police to register an FIR against luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz's local and Germany-based directors for allegedly providing a defective vehicle to a businessman whose grandson was killed in an accident due to non-functioning of the safety air-bags.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate gave the directions to register a case against the company's three Germany-based directors, a director in India and a dealer in Jaipur, after it was alleged that the company had made false claims that the air-bags of the car will function in any accident even at a minimum speed of 23 kmph.

The petitioner's grandson was killed when the S-class Mercedes-Benz he was driving met with an accident last month.
