Cyberspace enthusiasts hit back at Kapil Sibal's online move

New Delhi, Dec 8: HRD minister Kapil Sibal came under attack from cyberspace over the government's move to monitor content on social networking sites.

Eminent personalities like Shobhaa De, Member of Parliament Rajeev Chandrashekhar and Shekhar Kapur are the latest entrees on the cyberspace following netizens' rage over Sibal's announcement on Tuesday on removing offensive and derogatory content from social media sites. They said that the government did not have rights to censor Freedom of expression and thought.

Hashtags #Kapilsibal and #Censorship were hot topics on Twitter.

"Can u imagine some bureaucrat in Dept of Telecom being tasked with approving content on internet, of deciding appropriate n inappropriate," read Rajeev Chandrasekhar's tweet.

"Every individual is a potential broadcaster n influencer on social media. that scares d gatekeepers of d world including govts," read filmmaker Shekar Kapur's tweet.
