Punjab: FIR filed against Sarpanch who thrashed lady teacher

New Delhi, Dec 6: An FIR has been filed against the Shiromani Akaali Dal Sarpanch who thrashed a lady teacher, Varinder Kaur at a function in Muktsar district, Punjab.

On Monday, Kaur along with other teachers moved to submit a memorandum to Bhatinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal seeking permanent jobs.

But a tussle broke out between the Akali Dal workers and teachers' delegation as the workers demanded the delegation to leave the place.

"Balwinder Singh manhandled me and beat me up," said Kaur. Police slapped and picked up Jarnail Singh, EGS Jalandhar unit chief, she added.

Sources claimed that the police locked up the teachers in a house to ensure a smooth conduct of the function.

Meanwhile, the teachers have filed a complaint against Balwinder, demanding his arrest.
