2G: Kanimozhi's bail plea to be heard today

New Delhi, Nov 24: A day after five corporate honchos were granted bail in the 2G spectrum case, all eyes are fixed to see if DMK MP and 2G accused Kanimozhi will be granted bail by the Delhi High Court today.

Kanimozhi's bail application cites the Supreme Court's ruling that granted bail to 5 corporate honchos. She also argued that it was violation of her fundamental rights to keep her any longer in the jail.

Her bail plea was earlier rejected by saying that the "crime committed was a deliberate offence, an economic offence and very serious in nature".

Sanjay Hegde, supreme court lawyer said that the corporates being granted bail would definitely impact the whole issue and cases of the other accused in the scam.

"You will recollect that there were some accused against which the prosecution did not even oppose the bail. And they continue to remain in jail. In such cases, it is pretty certain that the courts would consider the facts that other accused have got bail," he said.

He also said that some accused "who are central to the controversy may not get the benefit". But corporate people standing on the boundary of the scam would gain from the order, he said.

"Let us wait for the first petition already being moved, may be HC hearing it on Thursday. We have got very good hope now. We all are hopeful," said TR Baalu, DMK leader.

Kanimozhi along with Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar is accused of receiving a bribe of whopping Rs 200 crore in connection with the 2G spectrum scam.
