Cases of obscenity against Shilpa Shetty shifted to Mumbai

Shilpa Shetty
New Delhi, Nov 22: Three cases that were filed against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty in 2007 in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for kissing Richard Gere, Hollywood star and AIDS awarness campaigner, in public have been transferred by the Supreme Court to a Mumbai Court on Nov 21.

The case was transferred by Justice AK Ganguly and JS Khehar to the court of a Mumbai Metropolitan Magistrate after Anand Grover, Shilpa Shetty's lawyer pleaded that the cases be transferred.

Now the Mumbai Court will decide whether a prima facie case of obscenity should be levelled against the actress or to quash the case in her absence.

"This is nothing but publicity-hunting…. By filing such cases and getting such orders, you are getting a bad name for the country," said the court while staying the arrest warrant against Richard Gere.
