IPS officer's arrest: Anna goes political, criticises Modi

Pune, Oct 4: Anna Hazare, who claims to remain apolitical, seems to have chosen political path. Criticising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Anna showed his support for the suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt who was arrested on Sept 30.

Anna, slamming Modi, said, "What Narendra Modi has done (Bhatt's arrest) is wrong. It is not good for democracy in the country."

Anna took a hand on Gujarat government stating the state government could have averted Bhatt's arrest when the Supreme Court was fully "aware of the original issue".

Anna's statement during a press conference on Tuesday, Oct 4 might leave a profound impact on the whole issue which has already stirred protest in some places in the country.

Bhatt was arrested after a police constable accused him (Bhatt) of forcing him (police constable) to support his (Bhatt's) allegations against Modi over the 2002 Godhra riots.
