K'taka Lokayukta Patil caught in land scam; BSY smiling?

Bangalore, Sept 16: Karnataka's new Lokayukta Shivraj Patil with wife have been caught in a fresh controversy over having illegal properties violating government rules. Citing the revelation, many started asking - Is former chief minister of the state, BS Yeddyurappa smiling now?

The speculation came up as Patil is leading the investigation on Yeddyurappa over some illegal land scam. However, the recent allegations against Patil tarnished the image of the successor of Santosh Hegde, one of the eminent persons who played a role in uprooting corruption from the state.

Patil and his family owns multiple residential plots in Bangalore. However, according to rules, if an individual owns a plot allotted by a government agency or private housing cooperative society in the Bangalore metropolitan limits, that person or his/ her family member is not entitled to another plot by the same agencies.

Family members of Patil have three properties in the Silicon City - two in his name and the third in his wife's name. Acquisition of the last two properties reportedly violates Section 10 (a) of the house building cooperative societies by-laws implemented in 1993.
