Advani supports Modi, criticises Gujarat Lokayukta

LK Advani
New Delhi, Aug 30: LK Advani, BJP leader along with MPs from Gujarat protested outside the Parliament House against appointing the Gujarat Lokayukta by state governor without consulting the Chief Minister Narendra Modi and demanded that she be removed.

Advani, Haren Pathak along with 15 other BJP MPs from Gujarat protested against the appointment of RA Mehta as the Lokyukta by Kamla Beniwal, Governor, Gujarat.

"We are going to meet the President on September 1 or 2 when she returns to the capital. All norms were ignored by the Governor like consultation with the chief minister before the appointment or taking the advice of his Cabinet on the issue. The Lokayukta was appointed by the Governor bypassing all established norms," said Advani.

The MPs shouted slogans against the Governor holding placards that read "Dual policy on Gujarat will not be tolerated", "Recall Gujarat governor", "murder of democracy" and "Rajyapal Bhawan has become Congress Bhawan (Governor's House has become Congress Bhawan)".

On questioning further if BJP would demand that Beniwal be removed, Advani said, "Yes. We are going to meet the President over this."

"It is a very serious matter and we condemn it. It is an attack on the federal structure of the country. It has never happened before," he said.

BJP had earlier given a notice in both houses of Parliament that the question hour be suspended so that the issue could be discussed.
