How Google-Motorola deal affect Android smartphone makers?

Reports added that manufactures like Samsung, HTC and others have fear that the Google-Motorola deal may make them dependent on search engine company. Though Samsung and HTC have sold millions of Android running smartphones, Google will have its own strategy with Motorola handsets and it will make the Android-maker to a competitor than a partner company.
Google said Motorola Mobility acquisition was aimed to "superchange" the Android to offer better features. The California-based search engine company agreed to pay $12.5 billion to Motorola for the acquisition and its patents. More than 25,000 Motorola patents will help Google to prevent competitors from suing the company over its designs for new products.
"Our acquisition of Motorola will increase competition by strengthening Google's patent portfolio, which will enable us to better protect Android from anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and other companies," Google CEO Larry Page said.
Anyhow, Market analysts have the opinion that change in Google's business plan will effect other smartphone manufactures using Android platform. This may lead them to think to shift platform, mainly to Microsoft's Windows Phone 7. Manufactures have to think about a key player for leaving Android to compete against Apple iOS and Nokia. As of now, WP7 is the only platform which can be used instead of Android as iOS is closed for Apple products and even Nokia dumped the Symbian.
If Google shows signs of any change in business plan, HTC would be the most effected manufacturer as most of its smartphones use Android OS. Though HTC has long-time partnership with Microsoft and recently announced its plan to launch smartphones running on WP7 OS, it would not be easy for the company to compete with upcoming Nokia WP7 smartphones. With its strong fan base and popularity, Nokia can easily grab ther market.
However on Tuesday, Aug 15 HTC said the Google-Motorola deal would not affect its partnership with Google. HTC said in statement that the deal was a positive development to Android ecosystem and it will not affect its partnership with Google.
"This is a positive development to the Android ecosystem, which we believe is beneficial to HTC's promotion of Android phones. The partnership between HTC and Google remains strong and will not be affected by this acquisition," HTC said.
