Alagiri's wife grabs temple land worth Rs 20 cr for 85 lac

In an exclusive report by CNN-IBN, the news channel showed how MK Alagiri's wife, Kantha Alagiri bought a temple land worth Rs 20 crore for just Rs 85 lakh from a man, a lottery king who was charged with at least 50 criminal cases in 2010. The business deal took place after Alargiri became the Union Minister.
At least three DMK leaders and more than three ex-ministers have been involved in the land grabbing scam in the state, said CNN-IBN. The ones who are involved in the scam are Veerapandi Arumugam, J Anbhazhagan, KN Nehru.
An FIR has also been filed against Arumugam in Salem for grabbing land from at least 24 families amounting to Rs 85 crore.
“Those people didn't give us even time to pack our things. They chased us out from our own homes and left us to the streets and even threatened us," said Uma, a victim.
"If the minister was not involved at all, why did the entire bureaucracy including the collector, tahsildar, RDO, Commissioner not respond to our complaints? Why did everyone turn a blind eye?" asked another person, Gunaseelan.
While many DMK leaders have already been arrested by the police, the DMK has been crying foul against the AIADMK.
"All the cases foisted by the AIADMK govt are false. Jayalalithaa is just indulging in vendetta politics," said M Karunanidhi, DMK Chief.
"Land grabbing cases cannot be described as vendetta politics. Complaints of land grabbing was there in the last 5 years. After this government assumed charge, the people started approaching the police. The police were unable to cope with the number of cases coming in so we had to set up special cells. The complainants have no political backing. So no question of vendetta politics," said Jayalalithaa defending that all the arrests were made following genuine complaints from the victims.
The AIADMK government have ensured that justice be given and have set up a special anti-land grabbing cells to nab the culprits. It has been reported that over 1500 land grabbing cases have been registered and are being investigated by the police.
