Mumbai: Man crushes wife's head in front of kids

Mumbai, Aug 11: A 46-year-old man is on the run after he hit his wife with a stone in the wee hours of Wednesday, Aug 10.

Duraiswami Arjun, a drunkard hit his wife after he got into a quarrel with her in Santosh Nagar, Ghatkopar.

"Arjun, who works as a drain cleaner, is a habitual drunkard and would often get into fights with his wife after consuming liquor," said Vinay Kakade, senior police inspector, Dindoshi police station.

"He often stayed away from home for prolonged periods after drinking sessions, which was one of the major reasons for fights between the couple."

The accused returned home after he went missing for few days. Lakshmi, his wife who also works as a domestic help got into a tiff with him after he came home.

Duraiswami then came back with a stone and hit her on the head when she opened the door. Her 13-year-old twin sons, Ram and Laxman bore witness to the heinous crime.

"Arjun got scared when he saw Lakshmi bleeding profusely and tried to make a run for it. His teenaged sons caught him but he slapped them, pushed them away and left," said a police officer.

The boys then went over to their married sister and narrated the whole incident. The neighbours were alerted and the victim was rushed to the Bhagwati Hospital where she was declared dead.

"Arjun has been charged under Section 302 (Murder) of the IPC. A manhunt has been launched for him," said Inspector Kakade.
