Anna's protest to bring darkness across India on Aug 15

New Delhi, Aug 11: Headline grabber Anna Hazare has now appealed to the people across the nation to turn off lights on Aug 15 for an hour in a gesture to give momentum to their fast that is to take place on Aug 16.

"On Aug 15, at 7 p.m., Anna will appeal to the nation to join the hunger strike for the sake of the country and appeal to everyone to turn out their lights between 8-9 p.m," said Arvind Kejriwal.

"We appeal that in that one hour of darkness, they should light a 'diya' (an earthen lamp) which will signify a ray of hope to remove illiteracy, hunger and corruption from this country.

And added, "We appeal that no one should resort to violent means and people should not be adversely affected. We have come to know that some mischief mongers may enter the peaceful protests across the country and try to resort to violence."

"So one should be careful of such elements. Anna has further said that if the government tries to force-feed him, he will appeal to the people of the country for a jail-bharo movement," he further added.
